COLUMBIA, MD (March 25, 2010) - PEAK Technologies, a Platinum Equity Company, today released a new white paper titled "ITSmobile -- web-based SAP data collection." Written by Chris Schultz, senior SAP systems architect at PEAK, the paper provides a basic understanding of the "web-based" SAP data collection solution referred to as ITSmobile. ITSmobile stands for Internet Transaction Server for Mobile devices, and is one of several approaches that companies might use to create an SAP data collection solution.  At a conceptual level, solutions created using ITSmobile are very similar to WebSAPConsole and SAPConsole, with some exceptions that are covered in the white paper.

ITSmobile is a relatively new solution that became available to SAP customers in Q3 2007, and replaces WebSAPConsole, which will no longer be supported for SAP systems based on SAP Netweaver 7.10 or higher. ITSMobile provides a simple migration path for those companies using that solution.

Some of the primary attractions of ITSmobile covered in the white paper include:

• Solution supported by SAP - no middleware required
• Real-time connectivity
• Does not require separate server (for SAP ECC 5 and above)
• Web-based (graphical) screens
• Use of JavaScript allows greater flexibility for creating advanced solutions
• Better suited for RFID applications

"While ITSmobile is a relatively new solution, it's built from SAP technology that has a long history going back many years," said Schultz. "There is no correct answer on if ITSmobile is better than SAPConsole since it depends on many factors.  Our goal in publishing this white paper was to provide a high level overview of each approach and let our end-users decide which option is right for their business."
