The certification acknowledges PEAK’s knowledge and expertise in building and maintaining end-to-end wireless network connections using Cisco Aironet wireless LAN products. Wireless networks are rapidly gaining in popularity in warehouse and retail applications because of their ability to provide real-time, bi-directional flow of information between employees on the floor and enterprise data systems. “Our Cisco certification validates our commitment to our customers for delivering leading-edge wireless networking solutions that provide enhanced mobility and flexibility throughout the enterprise,” said Adrian Thomas, president and chief executive officer of PEAK.

PEAK obtained the Cisco Wireless LAN Specialization by providing its technical and sales staff with extensive training in the design and implementation of wireless networks that can provide product location information, real-time inventory transactions, online allocation of customer orders, creation of bills of lading direct from handheld scanners, and many other applications. Cisco Aironet in-building wireless LAN products are compact units that can be installed throughout a facility to provide wireless access to wired LAN’s for computers and mobile devices equipped with Aironet wireless LAN adapters. With unmatched roaming capability, mobile workers can move freely through an extended area and still maintain a seamless link to the network.

PEAK Technologies can deliver a complete wireless solution starting with designing the network and performing a site survey to determine the ideal location for wireless access points. PEAK can also provide all necessary hardware including handheld terminals, wireless adapters and access points, and wireless bridges to link the wireless network to a conventional LAN.

In a typical application, customer orders will be entered into the enterprise system, grouped into waves, then moved through middleware onto handheld terminals that operate on the wireless network. The waves are automatically converted into picking tasks based on the location of the goods in the warehouse. Those tasks are immediately visible to the warehouse operators on radio frequency (RF) terminals that also identify the precise location of the inventory item. Pickers scan the barcodes located on each item to verify it is correct and update the inventory control system so that the next picker won’t be directed to the same spot. Managers receive continual real-time information including graphical screens with progress bars that provide information on how orders are progressing through the warehouse. They can easily drill down for information on specific orders or tasks. This approach improves productivity by reducing the need for manual data entry and increases inventory accuracy by lowering the potential for data entry errors.
